Of Parks and Poses

Yesterday and today were about poses. I spent a little time in Bryant Park yesterday just people watching and sketching. I’ve come a long way with this type of sketching and have a long way to go still. I’m finally putting people and environments together in drawings. I need to do more of this. I…

True Detective

I’ve been watching the new True Detective. If you haven’t seen any of it, it is a pretty great show on HBO. The first season was the best thing on TV last year. It also has the added bonus of being an eight episode season. Short and sweet. This season is running a fine line between…

Dinosaurs!!!

I was in Boston visiting my best friend (and his lovely wife who is currently the only subscriber to this blog…thank you Audrey!) last weekend and we went to Harvard’s Museum of Natural History. Among the many cool thing they have are dinosaurs. They had some pretty good dinosaur toys and I picked up a…

NYC Store Front

While I was roaming The Met’s bookstore I found this book. It is a book of photographs of various types of stores that, once upon a time, made up almost all of NYC’s facades. I thought this would be a great reference book. I can draw various store fronts as practice as well as learn…

Metropolitan Museum of Art

On August 6th I took a trip up to the Met Museum. I spent a very pleasant day wandering around with no particular aim other than to do some drawing and see some art. There are always a few great exhibits and the permanent collection is endless. At the beginning of my visit I found an…

Urban Sketching

I found a group here in New York called the Urban Sketchers and when my schedule allows I go and join them. They meet somewhere every Saturday and sometimes and additional mid-week day. I have found the group to be fun and supportive. They are a part of a global organization of Urban Sketchers. If…

Camero Drawing 7/28/15

I started off today with some photo pose reference via Pinterest. I’ve found that athletes are the best pics to draw from, especially martial arts pictures. You get good movement and poses. You can see that I’m in the process of learning anatomy. There is some accurate and some inaccurate stuff here. The top drawing’s…

July 26, 2015 Drawing

Today I decided to do a still life with bottles and other miscellany. The first  drawing posted is the raw scan. The second one was opened in Photoshop where I fooled around with the contrast. To draw this I used a mechanical pencil with .7mm HB lead. The shapes of the objects all feel good to me…

Color Fun

So I was fooling around with color in Photoshop. I basically used the original cover to mock up the solid flat colors. It’s something I’ve never done before but it was fun and time consuming. As I get better with Photoshop, it will undoubtedly become a faster process.

My first post!

So, I have decided to start a blog about my art life. I’m a stage hand in New York City but am returning to school, Fall of 2015, to learn about Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). I draw on my own quite a bit and take occasional classes at the Art Students…
