Of Parks and Poses

Yesterday and today were about poses. I spent a little time in Bryant Park yesterday just people watching and sketching. I’ve come a long way with this type of sketching and have a long way to go still. I’m finally putting people and environments together in drawings. I need to do more of this. I also saw Mission Impossible yesterday which inspired the drawing of the dude on the motorcycle. This illustrates how little I know about motorcycles. Of the drawings on this page it is also the only one not from direct observation.

Today, I worked from photos of female MMA fighters. They always have good action poses. They are quick sketches that focus on gesture drawing with a modicum of focus on anatomy. I really try to focus on balance and making the figures look grounded. The more I do these, the better they feel. That’s it for today.
